Dowra Sharings: 6 - On Arrival

Arriving in Dubai, then Sanaa was not the same as arriving at Seyoun Airport which is a gentle ride away from Tarim.

I still cannot explain what it felt like to finally have arrived.

The Dar al-Mustafa representatives had come to Sanaa and made appropriate arrangements for us at a Hotel. However, Seyoun was different. An extroadinary couple came to collect us. This was also the first time I met a woman who was adhering to the Tarimi customs in both her physical and non-physical conduct.

It took me almost a month to just write about this one moment. I am not certain whether you, the reader will understand it or not. However, I hope you will try:

On Arrival

"When we got here,
it seemed
or felt
as if we'd arrived
at
a
station
of
purity.

The aura
of
those
who
came to receive
us
was so
distinct.

Reminds the spirit
of
'arrival'
and a pleasant greeting
which
though
in a
conservative manner
but
not
one
of
constriction."

I had the fortunate opportunity to speak to the organisers of early Dowras for important advice. One of these people was the wife of our teacher Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Efa.

In a conversation with her, a week prior to leaving England, she said:

"..when students of knowledge used to enter Tarim, they would remove their shoes.."

Assalamu alaikoum dear Bint,
When Umm Saf and I arrived at Seyoun, as we came out the airport door, Habib Umar was entering. It was too late for us to move out of the way and we had to simply walk past him, he stood back to let us past as we were in a confined space. Seeing him then, out and about in the world, I was struck by how tiny he is, and how he really seemed bathed in light.

How I miss it.

Walaikumslam!!

Ditto honey!!!!

:-)

InshaAllah we will meet again my Aussie friend x x x x x x
